Last year I had the opportunity to introduce Texas Highways readers to what’s new in my hometown of Amarillo, Texas. This year I got another local assignment for the popular travel magazine: Do the same for Canyon, Texas.
Canyon is Amarillo’s sister city. While this small town has kept a lower profile, things are changing. For one thing, this university town serves as the gateway to Palo Duro Canyon, which is becoming better and better known as one of the most beautiful spots in Texas. And in recent years, Canyon has become a destination in itself, with a thriving square and restaurant scene. Local favorites like Palace Coffee, Imperial Taproom, Doves Rest, and Burrowing Owl Books all got shoutouts in the piece.
